greetings from uganda!

hellooo from uganda, east africa! thanks for coming with me to yet another little corner of the world! where am i exactly? right about...

here! in kampala, the capital city of uganda! i got here on thursday, and have settled in nicely to my new home for the next 2 months. what am i doing here exactly? i'll be taking a course on rural development at Makerere University through UMB. this course was the reason i ended up in norway for 6 months, so needless to say... i'm very excited to be here! we won't be getting the detailed schedule of what we're doing til next monday, but what we've heard so far - lots of field, out of the classroom stuff sounds superrrb.

so yah... the course starts next monday, so i'm here a little early with lots of time to get settled in. we're staying at a student hostel, a quick walk from the university...

(when the traffic's not too bad! our hostel's the white building)
and i've got a beautiful little room overlooking a pretty garden and my own little balcony!=)

i'll be here with about 20ish other students, mostly from norway. there's 8 of us girls here so far, all norwegian except me...

marte, linn, rebekka, eldri, mari and heidi... and christina, who missed the picture. but yah, super nice girls, and lots of norwegian practice for me again! =D

we also got here in time to go to my friend patrick's wedding on saturday!

we were friends in norway, and he actually lived 2 floors down from me. so yah.. very fun, to be at a real ugandan wedding reception to celebrate... complete with cake

and drums, singing and dancing!!

so yah, just a little first glimpse of life here, and more to come soon...internet here seems like SUCH a deal after france, so ill be in touch again soon!!

much love!

Hello Rainbow,

Now that you're not with me in Norway anymore, I will be MUCH better at reading your blog! It was cool to run into someone from Uganda yesterday and when we were talking about Patrick's wedding, be able to tell him I'd already seen pictures! It all looks really cool over there so far.

I really look forward to reading more about your experiences later. :)

Are the Norwegian girls speaking lots of Norsk to you?

Snakkes snart,
Debbie

PS I signed up formally as Debbie Arnold so other Debbie and I don't have to get confused! :)
